Even so, it’s a gripping tale with some terrific performances.
Across eight hour-long episodes, the pace does tend to flag in parts, and we never fully get to grips with Duntsch’s deeper psychology. Even scarier, though, is how so many in the medical profession closed ranks around him for fear of the inevitable costly lawsuits that would result from his exposure. Joshua Jackson plays Duntsch pretty much as you might expect: an arrogant sociopath with a god complex – the latter being of such mammoth proportions, it’s hard to tell if even he realises the damage and hurt he is causing. If you’re heading into hospital for a medical procedure any time soon, you might want to steer clear of this nightmare-inducing drama series (adapted from a hit American podcast of the same name) about a real-life rogue surgeon and the extraordinarily hard time that colleagues had trying to stop him from maiming and killing patients.Īlec Baldwin and Christian Slater play two surgeons at the Dallas Medical Centre who quickly realise that, despite a glowing CV, their new spinal specialist Christopher Duntsch is a butcher of near-unbelievable proportions.
